The Amazing Race: "I wonder if they like blondes in New Zealand?" (Ep 4)

From La Paz, Bolivia to Aukland, New Zealand! Let's get straight to the teams:

1. Toni and Dallas: They work surprisingly well together, and I'm loving it!
2. Nick and Star: Not much from them this week other than a possibly injured arm. Surprising after the whole bra thing in the last episode.
3. Ken and Tina: I'm not sure the Fast Forward thing was really that beneficial for them; they were way ahead of the pack already!
4. Frats: Becoming less awful as the show progresses...and as the other teams get worse.
5. Divorcees: How they manage to eke it out week after week I have no idea. They're the villains of the season, for sure.
6. Aja and Ty: BORING, and unlikeable. I think Aja is on of the least interesting people they've ever cast on this show.
7. Terence and Sarah: I can't get over his hair, and her screaming. I hate these people.

Overall, I think the kiwi-squashing was indeed faster than the wind-car thing. It just took some commitment and effort. Of course, the wind-cars were probably more fun.

I was sad the blondes had to go. They were the comic relief of the season, and will be missed. If there is a non-elimination leg next week, I'm going to throw a fit, lol.

The Amazing Race: "Did you push my sports bra off the ledge?" (Ep 3)

Lots of stuff going on this episode. Let’s get to it.

Before the race even starts for the day, the Divorcees are already bringing out their claws. I’m beginning to understand why they’re divorced… wowzers. One of them apparently thinks that Starr pushed her sports bra off a ledge at the hotel where they were staying the night. OH NOES. SHE DIDN’T. That has such a HUGE effect on the outcome of the race! NO WAY. Like OMG guys, O. M. G. *Passes out from shock.* As my friend so adequately put it, WHY was her underwear out on the ledge for any nudging at all? Keep it on the body or in the closet please ladies. And really—if that’s the criteria for making enemies…I’d have billions. BILLIONS.

Anyways, the teams are off to La Paz, Bolivia! Huzzah for high altitudes with no air! They are forced to stay overnight at the Simon Bolivar statue and wait for a clue that will appear in the newspaper the next morning. The blondes (who are really the comic highlight of the season) aren’t thrilled about the hard ground, but at least they’re “sleeping next to Simon Bo-LEE-VARRRR.” ROFL. They’re so oblivious it’s almost endearing.

At this point, Nick wants to repair this tiff between them and the Divorcees about the bra thing. They’re like “WHATEVER. This is a HUGE deal! Like, I can’t believe that she did that! We hate you, and we don’t forgive you. Because her pushing my bra off the ledge is going to make us lose.” Please. Stop. Talking.

They find the ad in the paper for a hat sale, where they must go and buy a hat to be used later on in the episode. They receive their next clue at that hat shop, and it instructs them to WALK ON FOOT to the Detour. Not all teams read so great… DUN Dun dun… The nerds and Terence/Sarah hop in a taxi and head off. But wait. WAIT! Sarah reads the clue again and is all “WE HAVE TO GO BACK! WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!!” She seriously needs to shut up, I can’t take it. I was so sad she realized it. Unfortunately for the nerds, they noticed much later on in the race.

U-Turn drama at the Detour. Teams can either ride strange wooden bikes down a huge hill or walk through town collecting marching band members along the way. Most teams opt for the biking, which turns out to be sort of bumpy and complicated. On the bikes, the Divorcees are all like “OMG girl, we’ve GOT to U-turn Nick and Starr! They are so not our BFFs. She messed with my bra!” What-flippin’-ever chica. Get over it. Starr and Nick of course pass them going down the hill, which was totally satisfying.

On their way down, they pass team Boresville (aka Aja and Ty), who has the personality of a turtle watching paint dry. There’s like nothing there people. Anyways, Starr is like “please guys, we don’t want to be the mean ones. U-turn the divorcees, please.” And Aja of course says nothing because she’s almost incapable of speech. In one anti-climactic moment, the U-turn went unused.

Down with the marching bands, the frat boys are stressing out because they’re too high-strung about how slow their band is moving. I LOVED it when the blondes passed them and were dancing and waving about, completely clueless to the fact that it was a race, but still moving faster than the frats. Fantastic.

Now comes the hilariously good part. Not only were they dressed up as wrestlers a la Nacho Libre, but they were fighting short little Bolivian women in skirts. This is priceless. Ken and Tina arrive first and finish quickly, and their off to the pitstop. The Nerds and Blondes arrive early, but struggle with the routine. As the other teams begin to arrive, the same scene plays out each time, but it’s just as hilarious with every flip and kick. I’m TOTALLY moving to Bolivia, lol.

While sitting and waiting, Aja discovers her ability to speak and mentions to Divorcee #1 that Starr asked her to U-turn them. Oh Aja, you finally speak, and I now I hate you. LEAVE BRO/SIS ALONE. GOSH.

Of course the Divorcees are last, and they’re super angry with Nick and Starr because of the whole bra and almost-U-turn situation. Seriously girls, I hope you have bigger problems in your lives. “OMG girl, I’m totally going to confront her. If we leave, I’m gunna cuss her out at the finish…blah blah blah.” I cannot stand these women.

But wait. OH NOES. The Nerds have incurred a 30 minute penalty for taking the taxi when they were supposed to walk. Therefore they are eliminated from the race, and the bra-obsessors stick around. Ugh. Had the Nerds finished the Road Block in better time, they would still be in the race without a doubt. It’s really too bad, but that’s what carelessness gets you in the Amazing Race.

I’m still rooting for Nick/Starr and Toni/Dallas. The Blondes have made it into my top three just for entertainment value and comedy. Them as a final three would be great!

The Amazing Race: Do you like American Candy? (Ep 2)

Week two of the Amazing Race kept us in Brazil. I don’t usually like it as much when they keep them in the same county. Give us something different, eh? Here’s a quick team ranking:

1) Nick and Starr: Again, gotta root for the bro/sis team. They actually work quite well together. I’d like to see them win.
2) Toni and Dallas: They showed themselves to be nice people, but to Terence and Sarah? Please. BLEH. I wish they would have run them over with their taxi. Ugh.
3) Ken and Tina: They fight quite a bit…but it’s entertaining and they’re in it to win it.
4) The Nerds: I don’t have all the names down quite yet. Yay, they’re good with computers. Shocking. :-o
5) The Blondes: These girls are SO STUPID. They’ve got maybe one more leg, I’d say. They do provide quite a few laughs though. I think it's hilarious that they're trying to bribe people off with candy! The ticket counter dude looked pretty amused himself.
6) The Divorcees: They wasted SO much time looking for the container! Even digging in the sand?! Then they didn’t keep their taxi, which held them back even further… If they don’t start actually reading the clues, they are going to be out very quickly. Keep on diggin’ honey, there’s nothing down there, lol.
7) Aja and Ty: The only reason I remember these two is because they are from Michigan (WOOT). Other than that, they are the dullest team still in the race.
8) The Fratboys: Please, someone grow them a brain. They just don’t have it together.
9) Terence and Sarah: These two people are complete babies. There’s really no other way to describe them. In the first minute of the episode, Terence hit his head on the trunk of the taxi and immediately started throwing a fit. Sarah immediately starts cooing at him, dabbing up the “scrape,” and blowing on his forehead. “They didn’t even say ‘hi’ to us!” OH NO. THE WORLD IS OVER! Seriously, and his STUPID HAIR. Words cannot describe my dislike for these two people.

Teams had to either find a specific container at a shipyard (yes, the divorcees were combining the two Detour options, lol), or push a little boat 100 yards over sand using two logs to roll it to the shoreline. Only the Nerds chose the containers, and it kept them at the front of the pack. For the Road Block, teams had to discover the location of the next pit stop on a wall of Portuguese graffiti (which was super lame). The Nerds and Ken/Tina flew right through it coming in 1st and 2nd place. The whole challenge was just boring to watch, and many teams just cheated by hanging out and listening for other teams to get the answer right. Lets…not do that one again please.

And we said goodbye to…I can’t even remember their names!!! Oh, that's right. Anthony and Stephanie. There is no reason why these people should have been this far behind. They just didn’t have the motivation, I guess. They wanted to make money so they could start a family. Well, here’s an idea: GET A JOB. The race clearly wasn’t their thing.

During the race, we got to listen to them insult the taxi driver unintentionally, blather on about how awful living in Brazil must be, and go on and on about the money…these people have clearly never traveled anywhere, and they were not certainly not embracing the experience. The race is better off without them.

The Amazing Race: Episode 1

Well we're off around the world again for another race! This multiple-Emmy winning show is definitely worth watching, even if you're opposed to the whole reality-tv genre. Let's give this season's teams a quick rundown based on the first episode:

The Family Teams:
1. Nick and Starr: This is a brother sister/team that is inexperienced when it comes to travel. They latched onto Ken and Tina and are referring to them as "mom and dad." Hey, whatever works.
2. Toni and Dallas: A mother/son team that really gets along. Dallas is supportive of his mom, but she's going to have to pick up the pace as the race progresses. I like them a lot.

I'm always pulling for the family teams, because in 12 previous seasons, a brother/sister or parent/child team is yet to win.

The Dating/Fighting couples:
3. Ken and Tina: Your resident almost-divorced team for the season. Turns out, Ken cheated on her. *wags finger* She, however, is quite beastly. My favorite quote came from Tina when trying to flag down a taxi: "KENNY! USE YOUR WHISTLE!" lol.
4. Terence and Sarah: Sarah, apparently, is on the race to make friends, and Terence doesn't think that she should talk to anyone besides him. EVER. They're both unstable freaks and I hate them, lol.
5. Aja and Ty: This couple could potentially be very boring. We didn't get much from them this episode.
6. Anthony and Stephanie: SNORES. They barely said a word and finished near the end of the pack. LAME.
7. Arthur and Anita: OMG Rupert's parents! Has there ever been a more grotesque individual?! Ok, so they're not really his parents, but they look like they could be...with all that hair and the tiedye. Too old, too slow.

The Friends Teams:
8. Mark and Bill: These two comic nerds look extremely similar to the guys that do Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel. But they're fun and I think they'll do well.
9. Andrew and Dan: A couple of frat boys that are quite nerdy themselves. They just seem really immature like they're going to freak out about every little thing. Not my favorite early on...
10. Brooke and Marissa: They just HAVE to be blonde with names like that. They were really, really dull. Why is it a requirement that on this show all blondes must wear pink at all times?
11. Kelly and Christy: Yes, they decided to go under the title "Divorcees." Pretty much they probably just hate men in general. #10 and 11 are pretty much the same. Hot girls in their mid-20s.

The Race:
They raced from Los Angeles to Salvador, Brazil. They had to push a cart through the town and climb up stairs/down a 250-ft. rope ladder.

I kind of thought the end was predictable. No shocker that the oldies went first. But they didn't even really even try to create suspense. I like most of the teams, and I'm excited about the new sesason.

What are your thoughts? What teams do you like? Who do you want to win? I'm pulling for the fam teams. The Amazing Race airs Sunday nights at 8:00pm eastern time.
